FEBRUARY 2026 – David Brooks has crafted so many columns in recent years on America’s moral and spiritual decline that his final so-long piece in the NYT on Jan. 30 felt a bit like a re-write, except longer and more anxious than usual. After more than 25 years coming up with social labels – BoBos didn’t exactly stick – and identifying national vibes, and gently defending classical liberalism to Democrats, Brooks is moving on to The Atlantic, to write about more of the same.
